SCRIPTURE PHOTO WALK IN SAN DIEGO

Downtown San Diego

I started a photo walk connect group at my church during the summer.  It was supposed to be a weekly group where those joined would walk around different areas of San Diego, taking photos and trying to find photo opportunities that would fit our theme for the week.  I had also selected a section of scripture that correlated to our weekly theme.  Each week brought upon new meanings to the scripture I shared and helped me be inspired by my local neighborhoods.

Unfortunately, due to busy schedules, the summer season and family obligations I had to close my group.  During the time that I led my group we visited East Village, North Park and Little Italy.  Even though I was not able to coordinate more photo walk adventures, I greatly enjoyed the times that were possible.  I thought I would share here some of the photos that I captured, the weekly theme and scripture.

East Village

Theme | Make light the subject of the photo

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5

North Park

Theme | Find beauty in the ordinary

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. - 1 Peter 3:3-4

Little Italy

Theme | Use framing within a photo to tell a story

Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away. But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But, as it is written,

“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him”—

These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. - 1 Corinthians 2:6-10

Day to day, I can't help but notice a perfect shot or good lighting, but I don't always have the time or inspiration to go out and just explore.  This photo walk group enabled me to have some dedicated time with my camera while also encouraging inspiration.  Perhaps some of these images or ideas will inspire you too.
